Bideford Hotels & Villas Guide is an independent editorial guide to the finest places to stay across Southeast Asia.
We started with a simple frustration. The region has some of the most extraordinary private villas and beachfront resorts anywhere in the world, yet finding honest, useful writing about them — the kind that tells you which cove is quietest or whether the pool falls into shade by mid-afternoon — was harder than it should have been. So we set out to write the guide we wanted to read.
Our focus is deliberately narrow: luxury hotels and private villas across Bali, Thailand and Vietnam. We cover clifftop villas on the Bukit peninsula, jungle hideaways in Ubud, beachfront resorts in Phuket and Koh Samui, and the boutique stays of Vietnam's central coast. Everything we publish is written with the same aim — to help you choose the right place and make the most of it once you're there.
The guide is edited by D. Whitcombe, who has spent years travelling and writing about the region's hospitality. We write independently and in our own voice, and we care more about being genuinely useful than about being comprehensive. If a stay isn't worth your time, we'd rather say so than pad out a list.
